What is Rûz-ı Kasım?
In the folk calendar, the year is divided into two: November days (rûz-i kasım) and Khidr days (rûz-i Hızır). November takes 179 days and Khidr lasts 186 days.
Since the beginning of Rûz-i Kasım was counted among the people, it was accepted as a milestone in the periodical transactions in the old periods. Tax and salary periods are calculated with this calendar.
In Okmeydanı, which was officially dedicated to archery, the opening and closing of the facility was determined according to this calendar.
The facility was opened in Rûz-ı Hızır (Hıdırellez) and closed in Rûz-ı Kasım. Shootings and competitions were held on Monday and Thursday. In this way, 48 days would be reserved for official competitions and exercises, and for the rest of the time, the archers could do free work. For this reason, Ruz-ı Kasım is accepted as end of the season for Okmeydanı
Ruz-i Kasım, 8/9 Kasım’a, Rouz-i Hızır ise Gregoryen takviminde 5/6 Mayıs’a karşılık gelir. 2020 yılında, Rûz’h Hidr 5 Mayıs akşamı başlayacak.
